A day in the life of our Undergraduate ESG Advisor
19/03/2024University student, Sofia Osman, joined Liontown at the start of summer to undertake a vacation work opportunity. With the university semester now back in full swing, Sofia has continued working at Liontown part time while she completes her double degree, a Bachelor of Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Commerce at The University of Western Australia.
Sofia is passionate about climate change and aims to leverage the knowledge gained from her studies to make a difference in this space, contributing to supporting the world’s transition to a more sustainable future. Liontown has offered her a platform to put her knowledge into practice and develop a greater understanding of the industry.
As an Undergraduate ESG Advisor, Sofia supports our ESG team in a whole range of tasks, enabling her to experience the full suite of activities within the team and contribute to where additional resources are needed most at any one time. The team ensure that we contribute positively to environmental and social sustainability while minimising our impacts through all stages and areas of our work, as we find, develop and supply battery minerals for the rapidly growing clean energy market.
“I really enjoy the opportunity to engage in a variety of tasks daily – no two days look the same!” she said.
Sofia recently stepped up to take on the responsibilities of the ESG Coordinator to cover the position while a colleague was on annual leave. She embraced the learning experience and the fresh set of challenges to navigate with enthusiasm, demonstrating her already strong capabilities at this early stage in her career.
Sofia’s favourite thing about her time at Liontown so far has been the opportunity to surround herself with like-minded colleagues who are committed to sustainability and passionate about what they do. “They’re a vibrant community and are truly dedicated to making a positive impact,” she said. “This has not only enriched my professional journey but has also fostered an environment of continuous learning and growth.”
If you’re a university student who is passionate about sustainability and looking to break into the resources industry, join us at The Big Meet Perth Careers Expo on Monday 25 March at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. We’ll be taking expressions of interest for undergraduate, vacation work and graduate roles, launching early in 2025.
