Liontown donates Kathleen Valley pegmatite samples to the WA Museum
22/10/2024Liontown Resources is proud to have donated five spodumene-rich lithium ore samples from Kathleen Valley to the Western Australian Museum’s minerals collection. These pegmatite samples are now part of the Museum’s Earth and Planetary Sciences department, which manages a comprehensive reference collection of over 30,000 mineral specimens from across the state. The collection is a valuable resource for prospectors, industry professionals, and academics.
Liontown Senior Mine Geologist Lincoln Young led the initiative to donate samples to the Museum and visited the Museum to hand them over personally.
Peter Downes, Curator of Minerals at the Western Australian Museum, expressed gratitude for the donation, saying, “On behalf of the Trustees of the Western Australian Museum, I would like to thank Liontown Resources for their generous donation. They are an excellent addition to the State mineral collection and will be a valuable display and research resource into the future. It is good to be able to add specimens from current mining operations to our significant historical holdings from Western Australian pegmatites.”
The donated pegmatite specimens from Kathleen Valley were also recently featured in the Perth Gem and Mineral Show. The show gathers professionals from across the mineral, gem, and geoscience sectors, providing opportunities for sharing knowledge and promoting industry developments.
By contributing to the WA Museum’s collection, Liontown is strengthening our partnerships with the scientific and academic communities. The donation provides a valuable educational and research resource for the community, adding to the museum’s offerings and supporting learning and knowledge-sharing.
