Liontown inspires futures at Wiluna Remote Community School Career Expo
26/11/2024Liontown team members recently attended the Wiluna Remote Community School Career Expo to inspire students and showcase exciting career pathways in the mining industry.
The expo offered students and other members of the local community hands-on workshops and presentations from mining companies in the region. Liontown’s focus was on showcasing careers in environmental science. Led by our team, students explored activities like water sampling, bat species identification, understanding wind farm impacts, and heritage preservation. Additionally, Liontown hosted Kalgoorlie TAFE at the event, who demonstrated virtual reality training for forklift driving and discussed the career pathways and training programs available through TAFE.
Students from Karalundi College in a neighbouring town also attended, enjoying the activities we offered and staying to complete White Card training. With the aim of developing students’ hospitality skills, the students at the school prepared coffees and toasties for all the attendees which the Liontown team were happy to enjoy. Younger primary school students attended for part of the afternoon and were delighted to explore a fire truck which visited.
We are committed to creating social and economic value for our local community by supporting education, training and development. Thank you to Wiluna Remote Community School for having us. It was a wonderful day connecting with the students.
