NAIDOC Week 2023 at Kathleen Valley

07/07/2023

National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year. They are an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures, histories and participate in celebrating the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.

To celebrate NAIDOC week and the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, a series of events was held across the week with the Liontown team on-site at Kathleen Valley and the Tjiwarl Traditional Owners.

With the Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander flags raised, the team enjoyed a bonfire yarn session, learnt traditional ways of cooking and preparing Marlu (Kangaroo) and some Liontown members were fortunate enough to attend a bushtucker walk.

Thank you very much to Tjiwarl for sharing their history, experiences and culture with us.
